Alternate Versions of Oz, In Honor of Disney’s ‘Oz The Great And Powerful’

The Oz KidsWho didn’t love Muppet Babies? But perhaps a more important question is – “What cartoon company in the mid-‘90s didn’t attempt to recycle they’re product in baby-form?” A short list includes – Scooby Doo, The Flintstones, Looney Tunes, Felix The Cat, Tom & Jerry and Sesame Street. I think the one on that list I find the most frightening is Sesame Street. The very thought of Elmo somehow descending into a form of “baby-talk” more “babyish” than the “baby-talk” he already spews should be enough to give anyone night terrors.

But all this baby-mania resulted in an Oz version called The Oz Kids. The show follows Dot and Neddie, the children of Dorothy. I can’t really tell who the dad is supposed to be but, honestly, they’re from a farm in Kansas. I didn’t want to ask too many questions about their lineage. But apparently everyone in Oz is breeding like rabbits because we get Toto 2, Scarecrow Jr., Boris and Bela (the Cowardly Lion’s offspring), Jack Pumpkinhead Jr., Frank (son of The Wizard), Andrea (daughter of Glinda) and Tin Boy.

And that last one was kind of surprising because…well, c’mon, you’ve heard the Tin Man talk. Listen to that dude.
