List of Possible Batman Villains for Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises”

Mr. Zsasz

Who is he? Victor Zsasz is a common (well, common for the Bat Universe) serial killer. What sets him apart is his unusual way of marking his kills. Zsasz gives himself a scar of each victim, to keep a tally of all of his kills.

What works? Zsasz is unpredictable, and is probably one of Batman’s more deadly villains because of it. Zsasz doesn’t play a lot of games like many of the others in the Rogues’ Gallery.  He is cunning, and he’s no pushover either.

What doesn’t? Zsasz has already appeared in the series, as a criminal in Batman Begins who Jonathan Crane testifies as being insane. He is also a bit more straightforward than most of Batman’s villains, which is probably not an ideal choice for a compelling villain. However, Nolan said recently, “We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones.” So, you might see him return in some shape or form.

Chances of being “Rises” villain? 1/5

Catwoman

Who is she? Selina Kyle, is one of the more interesting characters in Batman’s cavalcade of villains. In the truest sense, she isn’t a villain, moreso a foil and love interest for Batman/Bruce Wayne. Catwoman is an extremely agile thief, who crosses paths with Batman numerous times throughout his history.

What works? After the death of Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight, it makes perfect logical sense to introduce a new love interest into Bruce Wayne’s life. What better than a person who doesn’t come at as much risk? Also, factor in that this is the type of person Batman shouldn’t be interested in, and you get a unique plot device. The last point is that her agile nature could be used as some very cool parkour like scenes. (If you aren’t tired of it yet, that is.)

What doesn’t? I’m not sure Catwoman is done recovering from the disastrous 2004 film starring Halle Berry.  In addition to that, Catwoman got a lot of flack in 1992’s Batman Returns as being overly sexual of a character. To top it all off Catwoman is not a true villain, and would still need another villain to really challenge our protagonist, much like in Batman Returns.

Chances of being “Rises” villain? 2.5/5
