Morgan Freeman Plays Nelson Mandela in InvictusIn late 2008, actor Morgan Freeman was involved in a car crash while driving in Mississippi at night. He suffered nerve damage as an effect of the accident, and underwent surgery to try and repair the damage.

Morgan Freeman told People.com, “I suffered nerve damage and it hasn’t gotten better. I can’t move it.”

I did not realize that he had suffered any injuries, or any permanent nerve damage since the crash. I remember that the accident was all over the news, and in the media. But I do not recall hearing that he was affected so drastically from it. Freeman says that he now wears a glove on his left hand to help reduce the swelling.

Morgan Freeman is nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor, for his performance as Nelson Mandella in “Invictus.”
