The Long Box – Casting Call: “Batman: Under the Hood”
The Director:
There were a couple of guys I was kicking around for this one, but the one that I think would be a pretty cool fit would be Guy Richie. He could bring a new take and look to the Batman flicks. Richie has his own style, but it isn’t too far off from Zack Snyder’s. He does some of the slow motion shots, and he tends to use a muted color scheme. Just look at the underground fight scene from the first Sherlock Holmes. The way he has Sherlock break down his adversary is exactly how Batman would do it. Plus, he already has a working relationship with Warner Brothers and given that the Sherlock films have made over a billion dollars combined, they know he can be trusted with a franchise.
The Writer:
The thing I never understand about Hollywood is their complete disregard for comic book writers. Why hasn’t Mark Waid written a script for Superman? Why didn’t Geoff Johns write the script for Green Lantern? When it comes to the writer for this one, go with what you know. Judd Winick would be perfect to write this movie. Not only did he write the original source material, but he also wrote the animated movie! Bring him on for the big screen adaptation, and you’ve got a recipe for success. Check out this gut wrenching scene from the animated movie.
