New “StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty” HD Trailer From Blizzard
There is so much to love and hate about this trailer. Let’s start with what to love. The visuals are absolutely stunning, and the beginning shots showing flashbacks of Kerrigan really make me wish StarCraft: Ghost had seen the light of day. Secondly, the story looks absolutely amazing. Blizzard knows how to tell wide arching epics that inhabit a huge fictional gaming world.
Now it’s time for the bad. Many people have attacked gaming for not being on the same level with other art forms (or in the case of Roger Ebert who contests video games are not a form of art at all). This is the type of trailer that will only lend credence to those naysayers. When you look at the trailer as a fan, the choir effect is cool because you are excited for characters you know and love. However, laid on top of that is cheesy dialogue, and B-movie cliches. Step outside this trailer and try to view it as someone who isn’t a fan. I’m sure if you did you’d have a completely different experience.
That isn’t to say this trailer is awful, on the contrary it is actually a lot of fun, and definitely hypes the fanbase up for the long awaited release next week.
StarCraft II continues the epic saga of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg. These three distinct and powerful races will clash once again in the fast-paced real-time strategy sequel to the legendary original, StarCraft. Legions of veteran, upgraded, and brand-new unit types will do battle across the galaxy, as each faction struggles for survival.
Featuring a unique single-player campaign that picks up where StarCraft: Brood War left off, StarCraft II will present a cast of new heroes and familiar faces in an edgy sci-fi story filled with adventure and intrigue. In addition, Blizzard will again offer unparalleled online play through Battle.net, the company’s world-renowned gaming service, with several enhancements and new features to make StarCraft II the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game.
StarCraft II is set for release in North America on Tuesday July 27th!
