The Longbox: Casting Wonder Woman for the DC Film Universe

One of the many questions people are asking is how will Wonder Woman fit into the Superman/Batman film and what will her future be in the films?  Will this lead into Diana getting her own live action movie, TV show, or will she be relegated to an auxiliary character in the inevitable Justice League movie?  All great questions, but I have absolutely no faith that Warner Brothers will finally pull the trigger on a Wonder Woman movie.  The idea that the character wouldn’t work on screen or resonate with people is absurd.  If that were the case, movies like The Hunger Games series wouldn’t be successful (the series has made over 700 million dollars so far).

I do agree that the original version of Wonder Woman would be a hard sell for people, but the current New 52 version would be amazing.  Her story has been changed to incorporate Greek and Roman Gods (Zeus is her father).  Much like Superman in Man of Steel, this version of Diana would be trying to find her way in a world she never knew existed.  What young girl or teenager couldn’t identify with trying to find themselves?

There haven’t been any details leaked about the script of the movie, so I have no clue what kind of role she will play, but it’s apparent she will be in the Justice League film and likely some spin off movies.  I can only hope the character is treated with respect and reverence.  She is part of DC’s “Trinity” (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman), after all.
