The Long Box – Casting Call: “Batman: Under the Hood”

The Cast:

Bruce Wayne / Batman: Ben Affleck – Who else did you think I’d pick? Affleck is going to be Batman for as long as Warner Brothers will have him.  Affleck is a great actor. I know he’s got this stigma from Daredevil, but that was over 10 years ago! We haven’t seen his Bruce/Batman in action yet, but if his roles in The Town or Argo are any indication, then we might be in for something awesome.

Jason Todd / The Red Hood: Garrett Hedlund – The Red Hood is a tough character to cast.  You need someone who is able to walk a very thin line between psychopath and sympathetic character.  Hedlund is a really solid choice. He’s able to play up on the sympathy (Tron) and then play a murdering whack job (Death Sentence).

Dick Grayson / Nightwing: Jared Padalecki – OK, I’ll admit it, I’m a Supernatural fan.  There, I said it.  When I think of Nightwing, Padaleki is the first and only choice in my opinion. Don’t discount him just because he’s on that show. First of all, he’s about as close to what Nightwing looks like as you can get. Add that to the fact that he has been a part of a two man detective team for the better part of a decade. Also, much like Guy Richie, he’s already under Warner Brothers banner.  Plus, the Supernatural crowd crosses over into the comic crowd.  This would be a fanboy’s wet dream.

Black Mask: Lee Pace – After seeing his over the top performance (in a good way) as Ronan The Accuser from Guardians of the Galaxy, I think he could be a really cool choice to play Gotham’s resident crime boss.  He has just enough crazy mixed with a little humor to make it work.

The Joker: Adrian Brody – Again, this is another tough one because of what Heath Ledger left behind. That being said, this is a different Batman franchise, so The Joker can be a little different, as well.  Adrian Brody is a fantastic actor.  For whatever reason, Hollywood has kind of forgotten about him.  What better way to shine the spotlight on him again?  He could play this two ways and it would work, very creepy without any humor or just creepy enough with some slight humor mixed in. He even looks just like Jim Lee’s version!

Jason Todd / Robin: Logan Lerman – When I started this thing, I thought Lerman would make a great Tim Drake (the 3rd Robin). After I reread the story, it was apparent that Tim doesn’t show up at all.  Then I thought, why not take a spin on the Tim Drake idea and make him the teenage version of Jason Todd?  Lerman is a kid that would benefit from a darker edge.  As Jason gets older, he becomes more violent.  I’d like to see what that version of both Lerman and Robin would look like.

Please feel free to continue the conversation below or leave a comment on the Facebook link to the article.  What stories do you think would make a great Batman flick?  Who would you like to see join the ranks of the Bat Family?  Let the world know!
