While I do admittedly admire the idea of adapting a silly cartoon into a silly, cartoonish, live-action fantasy, it would help if it was, you know, funny. Instead, the screenplay, which was too lazy to even get any of the series’ characters right (Rupert Everett playing Claw as an eccentric tech billionaire with an actual robotic claw for a hand is an unnecessary choice that I will never understand), relies mostly on crude humor, which explains why Disney put their faith in a director with an extensive history in Playboy photo shoot documentaries.
After all these years, the movie is a major malfunction.
