‘Prince of Persia: Sands of Time’ Trailer

prince of persia posterThe Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was probably one of my favorite video games ever. The sequels were fun, but went down a dark path that ruined a lot of the spunk that was in the original. The ability to run up walls and jump from ledge to ledge parkour style really contained a lot of escapist quality. Not to mention that the story itself was intriguing. It wasn’t much of a surprise then when I heard about it being adapted into a film. It seemed ripe for the taking. Love story? Check. Lots of cool visual effects? Check. Strong male lead? Check. Ability to become a hit franchise? Check.

Well, the trailer is out now, and I’m not sure how I feel. It is always hard to separate the source material of something you love, to the adaptation. I’m not sure I’m buying into Jake Gyllenhaal as a Persian, let alone the Prince of Persia with a (fake) British accent. Gemma Arteton looks stunning in her role as the love interest in the story, Tamina. If they stick to the story and style of the video game there is no way to lose. This could be the next Pirates of the Caribbean franchise Disney has been looking for.

Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina

Completely agreed sir. I can’t tell if this is going to be a legitimate fun experience or an Uwe Boll film wannabe. And what happened these last couple years with movie trailers? I almost don’t want to see it because they basically show the whole movie in them.
