Movies You Probably Didn’t Know Were Remakes, in Honor of ‘Evil Dead’

Movie #2 – Taxi

Year – 2004

You can be forgiven for not knowing either one of these films existed. One because it was a French film and, two, because it starred Jimmy Fallon. Sure, we all love Jimmy Fallon and his viral videos these days but once upon a time he dreamed of being a movie star. But he made this anyway. Of course, on paper it made sense. The French version is one of the most successful film-franchises in that country’s history. While that undoubtedly sounded quite impressive at the time, Hollywood forgot one thing…France also loves Jerry Lewis. So their “seal of approval” needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

The plot, what there is of it, revolves around a wacky cabdriver who dreams of being a racecar driver who partners up with a police detective who’s lost his driver’s license. Oddly, the “wacky” cabdriver isn’t Fallon…it’s Queen Latifah. Go figure.

Making matters even more confusing, the movie takes place in New York City – a town where there’s almost no need to have a driver’s license. I think the only city where being able to drive could be less important is Venice.

But now that Fallon is taking over The Tonight Show, he’s merely following in his predecessor’s footsteps who starred in the infamously awful Collision Course. Which would make Queen Latifah her generation’s Pat Morita.
