This is a small French film set in a Parisian brothel in the early 1900s. While there is lots of nudity (it is about prostitutes after all) it’s not a “sexy” film. It follows the lives of 12 women trapped in a sexual indentured servitude.
The closing scene of the film features “the girls” dancing with each other sans clientele. But the dance isn’t one of joy but ennui; world-weary survivors struggling to find meaning or purpose. Interestingly the choice of music is “Nights in White Satin” by The Moody Blues.
