First Look: Henry Cavill as Superman in “Man of Steel”
I am not a huge Superman fan. I like the original film starring Christopher Reeve. I saw “Superman Returns”, and while some of the set pieces looked fantastic, the film left a lot to be desired. I did enjoy the suit though. Much more than this suit that Henry Cavill is sporting. The honey comb pattern just reminds me of the new Spider-Man suit. Overall, I think the picture is pretty cool. And there is no denying that Cavill looks the part.
Cavill recently spoke about his training regimen. “I’m on 5000 calories a day… You’ve got to eat protein first, then a little bit of carbs… you’ve gotta keep your hunger levels going. I’m training two and a half hours a day, pushing my body beyond its normal limits, putting on a lot of muscle mass and just making myself look like Superman.” Wasn’t Michael Phelps on like 10,000 calories when training for the Olympics? Pick it up Cavill. You’re slacking….Totally kidding.
Henry then talked briefly about putting on the costume for the first time. “It’s extremely cool. There’s no other feeling like it. They just put it on, I turned around and look in the mirror and you can’t really play it cool – you sort of guffaw and laugh. I thought ‘OK, holy hell, this is real, it’s not a joke anymore. This is it…you’re doing it, you’re right in the middle of it.’” I feel like as an actor you gotta feel like a complete doofus walking around set, in public, in a colorful costume that in no way seems plausible for any reasonable person to ever wear…I mean unless you are at Comic-Con cause then it’s cool to be in costume.
