Want to Drink Free Beer? Come Volunteer at Heritage Fest!
Well, now that I have your attention with “Free Beer”…
In addition to being a sports editor, film critic, and male underwear model (one of those things may be false), I’m also the volunteer coordinator for some of the larger beer festivals around St. Louis. If you attended Microfest in Forest Park last month, you probably saw me walking around driving my beer pouring minions forward.
Well as it turns out, we have yet another festival coming up the weekend of June 15, 16, and 17, Heritage Fest. This is one of the largest beer festivals in the nation; last year, we had more than 20,000 people walk through the gates. While that’s awesome for sales, it also means we need a much larger volunteer group.
This is where you come in.
Basically, there are four shifts that weekend:
Friday night: 5p-9p
Saturday morning: 11a-3p
Saturday night: 5p-9p
Sunday morning: 11a-3p
We need people to pour, sell tickets, hand out shirts, and pour water, among other assignments. The best part is, if you work one shift, you get to come to another shift and drink.
All you have to do is go to http://stlbrewfest.volunteerhub.com/SignIn.aspx and register.
And, to pump up your conscience a bit (also in case your significant other/friends think you’re just doing it for the free beer), the proceeds from Heritage Fest go to an incredibly worthwhile cause, the Lift for Life Academy and Gymnasium. Lift for Life was founded in 1989 to provide at-risk inner city children a place to earn an education, play, and get a home-cooked meal that they might otherwise not receive. These opportunities are provided to the children for free, and Micro and Heritage Fest are the single biggest fundraisers for Lift for Life. The smoother a program we can run, the better opportunities these kids can have.
See? You’re not just doing it for yourself; you’re doing it for the kids.
So click on the link above, get signed up, and come do a little work and get handsomely rewarded. Plus, you’ll finally get to meet my ugly mug and see my horrible playoff beard I’ve been growing since last September 28. One of the editors-in-chief, Blake, is also going to be working on Friday and Saturday, and we’re pulling on Kevin’s leg to work it as well. So if you’ve ever wanted the chance to meet some of the faces behind this website, here’s a great opportunity.
