Top 10 Reasons To Buy Sony’s PlayStation 4 Over Microsoft’s Xbox One

5. You get a mono headset with a microphone

The PS4 will ship with a mono headset with an attached microphone so you can party chat with friends or engage in smack talking online. The Xbox One despite being $100 more does not include a headset, that’s extra. Your Xbox 360 headset will not work with the Xbox One, either. But hey, you get to use the all-seeing-eye of the Kinect for that. Good times.

6. The PS4 is faster on paper

While the real-world effects are yet to be seen, from a technical standpoint, the PS4 has faster memory and more access to it. At given time the PS4 can use 7GB of its 8GB GDDR5 memory for games. The Xbox One only has access to 5GB of its 8GB of GDDR3 for games (the remaining 3GB is reserved for those 3 fancy OSs).

  • Hey Justin! You give some good points. I was always a PS guy until XBOX 360 came out and HALO 3 was the "end-all-be-all" of games. However now with XBOX ONE kind of ruining everything, I think I may have to switch.

My one question is: were you always a Playstation guy?

It seems like you have a lot of brand loyalty while I was reading this article. Just curious. I would love to think it is unbiased, however these days every takes a side: MAC or PC, XBOX or Playstation etc. etc. Good reasons though! Nice article!

  • Awesome, concrete article! Congrats.
I am so getting a PS4. Besides the only reason I would get an Xbox one is for Killer Instinct 3, however it is not worth buying a system for one game unless its Zelda. :)

  • Seriously Microsoft has lost their minds! Locking everything down like that is like waving a red flag at a bull.

I give it 24 hours before someone has hacked them, seriously! Much as I hate Apple, they did have it right fighting DRM, we don't want it.

Its a shame, because we have both a 360 and PS3 and by far we've used the 360 more.

But if we have the money for a new console (new babies are expensive ) then Sony is for sure winning this time!

  • Hey Matthew, thanks for the question!

I've had a PS1, PS2 and PS3, as well as an Xbox and Xbox 360. Don't forget the PC! Since 2005 I gravitated more towards the Xbox simply because I liked the controller more, the party chat was more refined, and most of my friends played Xbox 360. So quite the contrary, you could almost label me as a Microsoft supporter.

However, I hate labels. I wouldn't say I'm a fan boy to either, I simply love games. But that doesn't mean I don't love debating the pros and cons of each system!

I just find it fascinating that Microsoft was able to drop the ball so badly. I think it's safe to say that they had the market cornered from the get go. Mainly because the PS3 was so expensive and had a much slower adoption rate among consumers. Heck, I didn't get my PS3 till 2009. Microsoft had the market, they had brand loyalty, but they swayed too far from what the machine was at its simplicity (focusing on Kinect) - a game console.

Microsoft had some great ideas. Namely, the family share plan they had set in place. Although few, there were some benefits to DRM. At the top of that list: developers seeing used game sale profits. However, they went about it completely wrong. And to make matters worse, they had some of the worst PR in recent memory.

When it comes down to it, I will end up owning both systems and declaring allegiance to none. I'll most likely invest in an Xbox One when the next Halo has a release date. Hopefully by that time the system will be cheaper and we'll have a better idea of how things work. But from judging by what we've seen through the media, the PS4 makes much more sense to me as a day one purchase. When it comes down to it, I'm a gamer at heart, I play games because I love them. Whether that's on a PS4 or Xbox One makes no difference.
