Ten Love Stories That Are Better Than ‘The Notebook’

1. When Harry Met Sally

What’s it about? With his next project Rob Reiner took on a romantic comedy starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan as Harry and Sally. The story follows two people across twelve years of chance encounters, where a platonic friendship gradually becomes more.  One of the emerging themes throughout the film is that men and women can’t be friends, because sex always gets in the way.  The two are continually running into each other, and what begins as a friendship begins to evolve into something more.

Why is it better than The Notebook? The film was ahead of its time, and became a pop culture phenomenon. Known for famous scenes like, “I’ll have what she’s having.”, and coining phrases like “high-maintenance”, When Harry Met Sally is a romantic comedy that has few equals.  Unique touches like interviews with older couples explaining their relationship histories, and the odd structure of the film itself, created a comedy masterpiece. Crystal and Ryan look like an odd couple, but manage to be a great fit by the end of the film.  Not all love is dramatic, sometimes it’s just a force of nature.
