“Spider-Man” Reboot: Andrew Garfield vs. Josh Hutcherson

I have mixed feelings about a full on reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. I like to see a different take on the characters with new actors and everything, but I was willing to give Sam Raimi one more shot after the abysmal “Spider-Man 3.” Plus, I liked Tobey Maguire in the role. But as we all know there are other plans already in motion.

Right now, three things are for certain about the new Spider-Man film. “(500) Days of Summer” director Marc Webb will be sitting in the director’s chair. It is set to be released July 3, 2010. And Andrew Garfield will be playing the lead hero.

But it was a long road to get to Garfield landing the gig. Actors rumored to have been auditioning for the part included Jamie Bell, Aaron Johnson, Anton Yelchin, and Logan Lerman just to name a few. My personal favorite for the part was Josh Hutcherson. You may recognize Hutcherson from recent films “The Kids Are All Right” and “Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant.”

Today, we as fans get to see what could have been with Hutcherson. “Latino Review” gives us an exclusive look at the audition video of this young kid in action. I think it is a great video, but it is too reminiscent of a similar scene in the first Spider-Man film. But let’s face it there will most likely be a scene exactly like this in the new film.

What do you think? Would he have made a better lead hero than Andrew Garfield? Let us know in the comments below.

  • I wouldn't have a problem with him being Spidey. He kicked asss in That Demo. I also liked how they made him look like Peter, thats how Peter should look. I also don't have a problem with Andrew Garfield I wish they could show his audition tape to seee how good he was.

  • Hutcherson has to be one of the most annoying kid actors.. EVER.

I'm glad he didn't get the part and Andrew Garfield has that geeky/nerd look to him + he looks like he can pull off the cool photographer (parker when he's old) based on Garfields pictures that is

  • i agree with cameron on the Andrew Garfield showing his audition tape, but I have seen him act before and he is an amazing actor he can pull off Peter Parker like no other from what I have seen, and Josh Hutcherson doesnt really have that kind of quirky-sarcastic attitude like Andrew does, so I am super glad that they went with Andrew instead or Josh.

  • Wow did they dodge a bullet. He definitely is NOT
Peter Parker/Spidey. Too serious and the forced expressions is..woah. People are just sold because he is younger. If this is real Id like to see Logan Alden and Jamie's audition. And then finally Garfield because according to casting it was really great. So his audition I'm more excited to see. Glad they are rebooting this, hopefully this time Parker won't be the loner that is obsessed with only stalking MJ. MJ and Harry weren't the only friends Peter had.

  • Great clip! Obviously this scene is all about the stunt work and not the acting. I like him a lot as an actor. Bridge to Terabithia was great and he was great in it as well as Little Manhattan, Journey to the Center of the Earth and especially Red Dawn. I'm sure the other guy will be fine, but I'm just starting to get really tired of the Brits and Aussie's taking over Hollywood.

  • I meant especially THe Kids Are All Right. Can't wait to see Red Dawn....hope it comes out.

  • Wow. He would fit Peter Parker so much better than Andrew Garfield! PLUS Hutchinson would be able to play high school age or college age and because Garfield is 27 they have to start with him in college. Major BOO to the studio for picking Garfield.

  • Alright enough with who didnt get it. I want to see the audition of the guy who actually got it. Although i heard it wasnt c=just his audition that got him the role but his work coming out soon.

  • He's way too young. You don't want to turn the franchise into a teen movie. And if it were a teen movie, I'd prefer Logan Lerman.

Although when I picture Spidey, I don't imagine exactly the physicality of Andrew Garfield. But he's an exceptional actor on completely different stratosphere than Robert Pattinson or other names thrown around.
