C2E2 – A Weekend Review of Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo 2013

The show is so well done that I don’t have anything bad to say about it.  My only complaint has nothing to do with the show or the fine folks that put it together.  My gripes are with some of the patrons of the show.  I’ve been going to conventions for awhile, and there is a certain “Con Etiquette”. The two things that drive me the craziest are when a person lays down 20 items for a creator to sign and when a person lays down 20 copies of the same issue of a book.  I saw a lot of that this year.  I was waiting to get something signed by artist Ryan Stegman (Superior Spider-Man).  I only had three books, and this asshole had over 20 copies of Superior Spider-Man #1.  Those are just some things you don’t do.  It’s not convention appropriate.  Bring a few books (I usually go with 5 at the most), and say thank you after the items are signed.  Show a little decorum and respect.

I could go on and on about all the great tings C2E2 does right, but I think you need to experience it for yourself.  I always tell fans of the comic and “geek” culture that if you haven’t been to the San Diego Comic Con, do it once.  Then never again.  It’s too insane and massive for my liking.  If you want a smaller convention with just as much (if not more) bang for you buck, hop on the train to Chicago and make a weekend out of it.  It’s worth every dime.  Hope to see everyone back next year!
