“Burlesque” HD Trailer Starring Christina Aguilera, Cher, Cam Gigandet, and Eric Dane

In what seems a mix of the plot line of Coyote Ugly, and the visuals of Chicago, comes Burlesque, the vehicle that is driving Christina Aguilera’s drive to be an actress. I’m not saying it isn’t possible that this will launch a successful acting career for the singer, I just don’t think it will. There are very few musicians that have successfully penetrated Hollywood enough to enjoy successful acting careers. As luck has it, she is starring with Cher, who is one of the few to have successfully made it in both worlds.

Regardless that it looks like a rehash of a plot we’ve seen before, I’m sure it will have more than enough entertainment value. Aguilera has a set of pipes that is hard not to admire, and who would like to see Aguilera, Kristen Bell, and Julianne Hough in corsets dancing on stage?

Synopsis:

Ali is a small-town girl with a big voice who escapes hardship and an uncertain future to follow her dreams to LA. After stumbling upon The Burlesque Lounge, a majestic but ailing theater that is home to an inspired musical revue, Ali lands a job as a cocktail waitress from Tess, the club’s proprietor and headliner. Burlesque’s outrageous costumes and bold choreography enrapture the young ingenue, who vows to perform there one day. Soon enough, Ali builds a friendship with a featured dancer, finds an enemy in a troubled, jealous performer and garners the affection of Jack, a bartender and fellow musician. With the help of a sharp-witted stage manager and gender-bending host, Ali makes her way from the bar to the stage. Her spectacular voice restores The Burlesque Lounge to its former glory, though not before a charismatic entrepreneur arrives with an enticing proposal.

  • What are you talking about? Plenty of singers have made successful transitions in to acting besides cher. Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Aliyah, Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, Reba McIntyre, and even Madonna snatched a Globe for Evita. So because Mariah flopped horribly with Glitter and britney tanked in Crossroads, Christina is automatically gonna fail? So what if this has been done before? Every genre has their cliches. As long as it's entertaining and fun, who cares? These bloggers are putting in over time bashing Christina. The movie hasn't even come out yet and people are criticizing it just because Christina is in it. You people need to get over yourselves because I don't see you out there with your own movie.

    • First off, if you would read the whole thing, I did mention that it will most likely be entertaining, and I don't write her off right away. I mention it because more musicians have failed, rather than make it. Let's go through your list...

Whitney Houston - She had decent success in acting at the height of her career, and could have possibly gone on further if she hadn't flushed the rest of it down the toilet.

Queen Latifah - Her acting is now much more famous than her music, and she wasn't really a singer anyways.

Aaliyah - Unfortunately, she might have gone on to something, but she died to early. I don't consider two roles in films that weren't very good a successful acting career.

Jennifer Hudson - Hudson's acting career launched her music career to what it is today. She might have got her start on American Idol, but Dreamgirls is what made her career.

Reba McIntyre - As much as I love Tremors, I don't really consider Reba a huge breakout into the acting world. That includes her awful sitcom that aired for years. (A better example would have been Dolly Parton.)

Madonna - She had a few good roles, and then eventually her ego took over and she came out with crap like Swept Away. However, she is hardly a box office draw.

What I am criticizing is a plot that seems almost completely ripped off from another film, not just cliches, but near identical plots. I even mention that the film WILL be entertaining most likely.

What you have in this film is an unproven director, who is more famous for videos of the Pussycat Doll than an real cinema. He is supported by a stellar cast around him though, and that makes all the difference.

It is obvious you missed my point entirely. I never said that Aguilera couldn't breakout from this role, I just don't think it likely. She's going to need something with a bit broader range to really make her acting career successful.

I could, however, be wrong, and at that point I'll look back on this and say, "Oh well, it all worked out for the best." Just don't put words in my mouth that aren't there.

  • I wanna see Burlesque. I'm a fan of Christina's ( luv her new song YOU LOST ME and video ) and the trailer looks good. Especially the little scenes of her with Cam Gigandet. HOT!
