6 Movies Featuring Butlers, In Honor of Lee Daniels’ THE BUTLER

Movie #5: Super ButlerIron Man

Year – 2008

In the comics, Jarvis is Tony Stark’s butler. Avenger’s Mansion was donated by Tony Stark and Jarvis along with it (as much as one can “donate” a person, I suppose). Jarvis was Marvel’s answer to Batman’s Alfred. And he’s the only character to stay with the Avengers for their entire existence. A claim not even Captain America can make.

And while Jarvis is not in the Iron Man/Avengers films, J.A.R.V.I.S. is. Standing for Just a Rather Very Reliable System, J.A.R.V.I.S. is the artificial intelligence for Stark’s suit. He’s the disembodied British voice that Tony Stark spars with while working on his latest creation. While he’s merely a machine (or software, I suppose) he does seem to have a heart. It was J.A.R.V.I.S. who told Stark to call Pepper Potts before he detonated the nuclear warhead in The Avengers. Presumably, that act makes him more “human” than Tony Stark will ever be.
