‘The Great Gatsby’ HD Trailer Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan

How do you make possibly the greatest American novel into a film? Easy you grab a director who has a knack for visuals, a cast that is rock solid in just about everything, and you throw a gigantic budget at it. There are so many things that could go wrong with a film adaptation like this. The biggest problem has to be that there is no way any film could possibly please the die hard fans of the book. The second problem, is that The Great Gatsby is one of those books that might be described by many as “perfect”; how do you take it out of it’s original element and translate it properly to screen?

I have to admit I would’ve liked a bit more big band/jazz music to spice up the setting of the roaring 20s, but the music was provocative enough to draw my attention.  As the film is still months away, and we will most likely be getting a more in depth trailer in the fall, I can’t critique it too much.  I’m sure many fans are already frothing at the mouth that certain details shown aren’t perfect.

If there is one thing I can be sure of, it is that Luhrmann will at least paint a vivid picture. His bright and effervescent style lends itself real well to the world of The Great Gatsby. That along with solid entertainers like DiCaprio, Maguire, Mulligan, and the up and coming Joel Edgerton, this is sure to be a well acted affair.

What do you think?
