Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” Accused of Plagerism

Well, it seems this happens almost any time a series of books becomes immensely popular. The lawsuits come piling in to ride the coattails of the success enjoyed by someone else.

This time the author in question is Stephanie Meyer, the author of the Twilight book series which is the latest craze for teen readers. Meyer is accused of plagiarizing parts of her fourth book in the series, Breaking Dawn, from author Jordan Scott who wrote a book called The Nocturne.

Meyer’s publisher was hit the other day with a cease and desist order telling them that distribution must be stopped until the suit is figured out. Meyer’s publisher, Hachette Book Group, responded by saying, “The claim that Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer somehow infringes on an alleged book by someone named Jordan Scott is completely without merit. Neither Stephenie Meyer nor her representatives had any knowledge of this writer or her supposed book prior to this claim. Ms. Scott’s attorney has yet to furnish us with a copy of the book to support this claim as requested. The world of The Twilight Saga and the stories within it are entirely the creation of Ms. Meyer. Her books have been a phenomenal sensation, and perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that other people may seek to ride the coattails of such success. This claim is frivolous and any lawsuit will be defended vigorously.”

Scott’s attourney claims that Meyer might have stolen parts of his clients book from her website while she was still waiting to be published.

What does everyone think of these claims? Has anyone read The Nocturne? If so, email us or leave a comment below saying if you think there is any validity to the claim.
