Step Brothers

It’s not often that you get to see John C. Reily and Will Farrell making fools out of themselves, acting like a couple of goofballs… or, eh…..

Step Brothers is the story of, you guessed it, two step brothers. 39 year old Dale (Reily), and 40 year old Brennan (Farrell), are a couple of adults that still live at home with their parents. They don’t have jobs, they don’t have responsibility, and they simply don’t care. That is until both of their parents fall in love… with each other.

From the time that Brennan and his mom (played by Mary Steenburgen) pull into the driveway of their new home, you can feel the animosity between the two step brothers. A reluctant Dale finally gets out of the car, and meets Dale for the first time during a staring contest. It is not long before the two break into an all out brawl, the likes of which gathers the entire neighborhood around the two. After it is all said and done, both parents become completely fed up with the two, and force them to go on a series of ridiculous interviews so that they can finally move out. The final straw for a flustered Steenburgen is when she “saw her own son use a bicycle as a weapon.” Dale’s father, played by Richard Jenkis, looks like he is about to explode as he punished the two with the unthinkable – “no television for a week!”

The rest of the movie is proceeds with the two step brothers growing to love/hate each other further, meanwhile providing some of the greatest comedy that the two have ever delivered on screen. This movie is what so many fans of Farrell and Reily have been waiting for, as we have been waiting for another masterpiece such as Anchorman. This movie is sure to have the audience laughing, as it was written and directed by Adam McKay who also wrote and directed Anchorman and Talladega Nights. But be advised, this one isn’t for the kids. Step Brothers has enough profanity to make a sailor turn red at some points. But all in all, this film is completely enjoyable, and is sure to have you repeating lines long after you leave the theater.

I give Step Brothers 3.5 out of 5 Stars.
