Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief – HD Trailer

Here is the latest trailer for Chris Columbus’s Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.  Columbus seems to be taking a lot of visual cues from his time on the Harry Potter. The most striking of which is his version of Mount Olympus which looks incredibly like the Hogwarts castle he did in Harry Potter and Sorcerer’s Stone. Columbus has been very hit or miss for me. He directed two of the Harry Potter series, and while they are easily the weakest of the 6 out so far, he did do a fantastic job of setting up much of the world. His last film was one of my least favorite films of the year, I Love You Beth Cooper. He does some passable adaptations including a big screen version of the popular Broadway hit, Rent. It just seems that he lacks originality and gets by on adaptations and licensed properties that are already bound to bring people in.  I’m sure once the full trailer for this one comes out we will get a much better idea of what to expect.

Synopsis:

The son of Poseidon travels the Earth with the hopes of quelling a battle of the gods in this adaptation of the first book in Rick Riordan’s best-selling children’s book series. Veteran director Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) directs from his own script with co-writer Craig Titley. 3:10 to Yuma’s Logan Lerman toplines a godlike cast that includes Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, and Sean Bean. – Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide
