New “The Karate Kid” Remake Trailer

I really have mixed feelings on this film. Part of me thinks they skewed the age a little too young in the film. I think remaking the original was a shame, even if The Karate Kid doesn’t hold up as well these days. Although, watching the trailer it isn’t hard to see that Jaden Smith seems to be almost his dad in miniature. The was he talks, looks, and acts is very similar to his father Will, which can only be a good thing. Not to mention the fact that the kung fu scenes in the trailer actually look pretty impressive.  Jackie Chan has big shoes to fill, Pat Morita made the original Mr. Miyagi character one of the most famous characters ever to appear on film. I have no doubts that Chan will be much more impressive to watch fight, but he’s got to capture the humor and the wisdom that Morita was able to. I can’t lie I want to see this, but it is more to see if it is worth watching or if it will be a train wreck.

Synopsis:

12-year-old Dre Parker could’ve been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother’s latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying – and the feeling is mutual – but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre’s feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts “the karate kid” on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han, who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.
