Nairobi plane crash victims improving, from KSDK St. Louis

KSDK — A 25-year-old Chesterfield man injured in a weekend plane crash has improved.

Dan Parris was part of a local film crew shooting a documentary in Nairobi on poverty.

The video on YouTube was shot moments after the plane carrying him and 26-year-old Rob Lehr of Ballwin crashed into an apartment building near Nairobi on Saturday. Parris did not suffer any broken bones as initially reported.

The men were working on a documentary called give a damn illustrating the plight of the poor. Their support team used the social networking sites Twitter and Facebook, as well as blogs, to promote the project. Those sites became crucial for loved ones to stay in touch when tragedy struck.

Lehr sent updates from his hospital bed on Twitter and the support team in the states used Skype to call Lehr and Parris using a computer. The technology allowed the story to reach a worldwide audience.

The advisory board for the film will meet later this week to decide when the crew will come home and the future of the project.

The men are filming a documentary through a humanitarian group called “Give A Damn International.” The filmmakers and their families are using Twitter accounts to update their conditions. You can read it by clicking on the following link, www.twitter.com/giveadamndoc.
