Movie Review: ‘Bright’ starring: Will Smith, Joel Edgerton

Will Smith deserves so much better.

Let’s hope Smith doesn’t go the same route as Adam Sandler, but it looks like the once bankable star just might.

There is no denying that Sandler hasn’t made a decent movie in 10 years. Some may argue if he ever did. Well, The Fresh Prince is working on quite a streak of his own. His newest, Netflix film, Bright, is a huge pile of crap. Throw in a wasted Joel Edgerton and this film is an absolute joke. Netflix reportedly spend $90 million making this mashed-up turd.

Smith does his best Bad Boys impression, shoots a lot of people and talks all tough, but in the end, Bright may even be worse than Suicide Squad, the last film Smith starred in with director David Ayer.

One would think producers of the film would have learned from other failures of the mash-up genre(see Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Cowboys vs Aliens) but I guess Lethal Weapon mixed with Lord of the Rings sounds like a good idea to some idiot in Hollywood.

I won’t go into the razor thin, totally ridiculous plot, as it is Christmas season, so consider that my gift to you.

Edgerton’s career will be fine. He’s known for taking challenging and strange roles and is quickly building an impressive resume.

Smith, on the other hand, is no longer the bankable star he once was. Today’s generation of young moviegoers may know Smith more for his famous children than his films. Let’s hope that this is a wake up call for one of the seemingly nice guys in Hollywood and Smith goes back to making good movies, or at least something that’s tolerable without Orcs, fairies and elves. Unfortunately, Smith and Edgerton have reportedly agreed to a second Bright film. Let’s hope the pair rethink a sequel, or their once bright careers may go dark.
