Lara Croft Gets New Look and Game

When I was a kid, I had a Super Nintendo for the longest time.  And I loved it.  Then, one night I remember being at Best Buy, and all of a sudden we were bringing home a Playstation along with two games that I knew nothing about.  Tekken and Tomb Raider.  My world was turned upside down.  I thought it was the coolest thing ever.  The sex appeal of Lara Croft didn’t hit me for another couple of years, but I just loved the game.

Now, 9 games and 2 movies later, Lara is getting the reboot.  Isn’t everything these days?  Not only is she getting a whole new origin and backstory, but she is getting a brand new look.  The picture provided is our first look at what Lara will look like in the new game, Tomb Raider, which will hit shelves sometime in 2011.

The new game is looking to take Lara back to her “roots”.  Square-Enix, the company responsible for the game recently released this statement regarding the story of the game: After a brutal storm destroys the boat she was traveling on, a frightened young woman is left washed ashore on an unknown beach. On her own but not alone, she has only one goal, to survive.

Maybe it’s just me but I like the old Lara better.  Everything about the game was unrealistic and fun.  I remember shooting a T-Rex in the head with a shotgun while running past an ancient Egyptian temple.  I guess gamers these days want their stuff more gritty and realistic.  Not me.

What do you think of this whole plan?  What is your favorite game that you play today?  Let us know in the comments below.

  • I totally agree. We bought a 'second-hand' Playstation 1 with a couple of games from somebody of which TOMB RAIDER 3 was one of it. I was totally hooked, played until 2 in the morning (even in the week). I couln't get enough and just recently I played the game again (for the 4th time!). It is and was and will always be an awesome game and experience for me. I liked the old Lara Croft better, good memories!

  • I like the new Lara now to change her back story was wrong. Still wondering about her parents and that butler lol.
But the look is more real the dirt the cuts she just dont look inexperienced.I love grittiness like if Lara got hit or scrapped herself.I would like to see the scars of her hard adventures she did.But its not 1999 no more nothing gonna stay the same. And i just hope shes detailed on the game like the promo.
