Karate Kid Remake Trailer starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith

I’m still a bit on the fence about this one. Mainly, because I love the original so much. I just didn’t see the need for a remake, even though it is painfully obvious that the original Karate Kid is very dated. I do like that they aren’t making a straight out remake, and changing the story up a bit. It is even nice to see Will Smith’s mini-me, Jaden Smith, channel his father a bit in the trailer. The first watch through of the trailer I saw a couple moments that reminded me of Will. The second time through? I saw about 10 more instances where Jaden’s mannerisms and movement was much like his fathers. Let’s hope he has as much charisma as his dear old dad. Regardless, should be a fun movie, and we might see a resurgence of karate lessons in America later this year.

Synopsis:

12-year-old Dre Parker could’ve been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother’s latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying – and the feeling is mutual – but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre’s feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts “the karate kid” on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han, who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.
