James Cameron Options “The Last Train From Hiroshima”

James Cameron at this moment might be the most powerful director in Hollywood. He is now responsible for the number one and two grossing films of all time, so what do you do next? You option projects that are a personal to you. With Cameron he has made a career out of it. His obsession with Titanic produced the highest grossing film of all time, and subsequent documentaries on the subject. His devotion to improving the special effects techniques of Hollywood brought us Avatar. Now he has optioned a book about WWII Japan and the bombing of Hiroshima, “The Last Train From Hiroshima: The Survivors Look Back” by Charles Pellegrino.

The subject has apparently interested Cameron for a while. During his publicity tour for Avatar in Japan, Cameron took a day off to visit with Tsutomu Yamaguchi on December 22nd. Not a day too soon since Yamaguchi passed away just the other day due to cancer at the age of 93.

The book is not yet released, but is due out in stores January 19th.  So far the advance reviews of the book have been very positive.  The book details first hand accounts of Japanese citizens and American pilots involved in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

This may seem like an odd choice for Cameron, but remember before Titanic was released it seemed like a bit of an odd choice as well. There is also no guarantee that this will ever be made into a film.
