It’s A Trap! Ole Miss Chooses Admiral Ackbar As Mascot

I’m sorry, but this is just too funny not to post. Apparently the Ole Miss Rebels are trying to update their mascot from Colonel Reb, and have taken a poll to choose the next mascot. What have students done? Well, vote for the famous Mon Calmari Admiral from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. (It is sad that I know this information off the top of my head.)

While the vote is heavily in favor of Admiral Ackbar, the final decision comes down to student mascot committee. I’ll be surprised if the committee decides in favor of the tactically astute Mon Calmari, mainly due to the fact that I’m sure the school would have to pay a licensing fee to Lucasfilm in order to use the character.

This just makes me laugh because it essentially combines two parts of my childhood, my love for Star Wars and my youth growing up in Mississippi.  I think Ackbar is a fitting choice over all, since he is part of the REBEL Alliance. Who wouldn’t want to see Ackbar’s giant dome during a bowl game sometime? Plus, if any of their teams ever run a trick play they could yell, “It’s a trap!”
