Shotspeare Opening Night
March 9, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Shotspeare is equal parts bacchanal and classical theater. Harkening back to the actual time of Shakespeare where audience members (groundlings) were boisterous and partook in the show. Think Drunk History meets The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, hosted by the Gazillionaires English major nephew.
The company: Five classically trained actors with years of crowd work, stage combat and improvisational experience.
The staging: A 90 minute interactive staging of one of the worlds most beloved plays, featuring a wheel of fortune, real swordplay and stage combat, audience participation, music, dance, cross dressing, magic, improv, puppetry, mask-work and more.
The game: Five actors and one audience member stumble their way through Romeo and Juliette with the help of liberal pours of Shakespeare Vodka. The audience is encouraged to drink along with them as they flub their lines and miss their cues. Hilarity ensues as more obstacles are added including the Wheel of Soliloquy. The actors deliver their speeches under multiple kinds of duress, including eating saltines, being pelted with socks or spanked by audience members.
