Aarti Reviews “Inception” Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Tom Hardy

Inception

Until now, this has been one of the worst years for film that I have seen in over a decade.  I was beginning to wonder if the Oscars were going to be canceled next year due to the lack of talent, and then I saw Inception.  Being the most anticipated movie of 2010 I was weary of the hype and hopeful that Christopher Nolan would deliver as he has with all of his movies in the past.  He did and then some,  this movie is actually better than anticipated.

The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Cobb, a thief that specializes in “extracting” secrets from the minds of dreaming victims. A Japanese businessman (Ken Watanbe) hires Cobb to do exactly the opposite- plant an idea instead of stealing one.  At first hesitant, Cobb takes the job after he is offered a way back home to his family.  To do this, he begins by assembling a team.  Cobb’s team consists of Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a researcher, Tom Hardy as a “forger,” an impersonator; Dileep Rao as a chemist, and Ellen Page as the architect.  That is an amazing amount of talent for one film, but it doesn’t end there- this cast is supported by Marion Cotillard and Michael Caine.  Cobb’s plan is to plant a “seed” into the mind of Cillian Murphy, who plays a man about to inherit his father’s corporate empire, and to let the idea grow from there.  I am going to stop there with the plot as I would not want to ruin this film for anyone.

Christopher Nolan manages not to use CGI as a crutch, which would be almost expected from a film like this. Not to say the visuals aren’t stunning, because they are, but there is the perfect amount of story to balance the visuals well.  It is rare to stay engrossed in a film that has a running time of 148 minutes, but Inception manages to pull you in as if you were there for the ride.  This is by far the best movie of the year and possibly the best movie in the last 5 years.

Inception is an A+
