The Force Unleashed is already the most popular Star Wars videogame of all time. With a sequel due out later this year, it appears to be one of the most popular non-canonical stories in the Star Wars universe. (Watch the trailer for The Force Unleashed 2.) Now in an in interview with CVG, producer of the games, Haden Blackman confirmed that the characters from the games will be showing up in other areas of the Star Wars universe, including the upcoming TV series, and possibly another movie.

“I hope so, we’re already seeing it reach out into publishing with comic books and novels that are taking into account stories we’ve created and characters we’ve created,” Blackman told CVG. “Hopefully some day we see these characters on big or little screen. We’re dealing in a period of time that has largely been unexplored by anything…Force Unleashed was the first major story we set in that time period…I think we surprised a lot of fans with that story because we showed the formation of the Rebel Alliance and introduce the concept of the dark secret apprentice.”

This doesn’t sound like a bad idea to me. I’m not entirely in love with the Star Wars universe like I was when I was a kid, but adding things from it’s expanded universe into canonical items is something to be excited about.  The story to The Force Unleashed was a lot of fun, but the gameplay elements left a little more to be wanted. The strength of its story should transfer well to other mediums.
