“How to Train Your Dragon” Tops Annie Award Nominations – Read the Full Nominations List

Things have been a little rough this year with the Annie Awards. Both Disney and Pixar have pulled out of the awards due to a voting dispute. However, that didn’t stop voters from voting for Toy Story 3 in Best Animated Feature, Best Director (Lee Unkrich) and Best Screenplay (Michael Arndt). The film was however shut out in every other category, which is a bit weird for the best reviewed movie of the year. A bit of a backlash from their stance?

On the other side of the coin is Dreamworks’ How To Train Your Dragon, which was almost as successfully reviewed as Toy Story 3. The film was nominated for 15 overall nominations. This helped Dreamworks gain 39 total nomiations, in major contrast to Disney’s 3 and Pixar’s 4.

I was a big fan of Toy Story 3, Tangled, and How To Train Your Dragon. I thought they were all solid animation efforts, and it is disappointing that this spat tarnishes the validity of the Annie Awards. I really wish the films could be completely judged on their own merits.
